Let's start the journey, already!

Well, a few days after my operation.  I got so FRUSTRATED!  That I got on the internet and signed up for next year's TRANSVULCANIA.  NO, not the Half Marathon one, but the ULTRA Marathon one!  What was I thinking!!!???

I was operated on May 31st.  Today it's October 10th, 4 months and 10 days since my surgery.  I have just started jogging again.  As of tomorrow I will have 7 MONTHS to train for the TRANSVULCANIA... there is no turning back.  But first I think I must set some concrete goals.

1) LOSE WEIGHT!  Well, the only way to get this done is with a diet!  Starting tomorrow strict diet to get these pounds OFF!  I also need to implement at least 1 hour of cardio a day.  BURN!  I am starting at 165 lbs.  I would like to get down to 150.

2) Slim down on the BODY FAT.  I am currently around 33%, that needs to get down to 26%, at least.  This goes hand-in-hand with losing weight.  Shed the pounds, shed the fat.  I will need to start some weights, too.

3)  In 7 months: COMPLETE the TRANSVULCANIA.

I suppose that as I go, I will set smaller goals to get me to the BIG goal.  I will go from Wednesday to Wednesday.

Goals for this week:
1) DIET, make a menu tonight and stick to it for the week.  No eating between meals, no sweets.
2) Do gym elliptical/treadmill for one hour workouts: Today, Friday, Sunday and Tuesday.  Swim and/or do weights Saturday and Monday.  Tomorrow is cleaning day, so if I get something done it will be a bonus.

How did I get here?

So, how did I get here?

I was doing GREAT with my diet while in April. Exercising, logging in my calories on My Fitness Pal, etc.

But slowly we got busier.... one weekend Rafa and I went away to the mountains. I didn't eat well, but we went hiking over 2 hours every day. But then we went away to Lanzarote, from Friday to Monday, to another island. Eating out, not exercising. But I was still holding my own. Trying to make better choices, although not ideal.

We came home Monday, I spent Tuesday and Wednesday like a mad woman trying to get my life back in order, tons of laundry piled up from the long weekend, a month of paperwork backed up from guests being here. I misplaced our camera so I literally went through EVERY closet, cabinet and drawer in the house. (I had already gone through all the kids' clothes and closets for the summer, thank goodness) , just to leave again Thursday night. Thursday I had to pack 3 separate suitcases. We left the older kids in Las Palmas with my husband's boss, the babies we dropped off in Tenerife with my in-laws, as we traveled to La Palma Island.  Rafa had his 83km run across the island on Saturday, May 12th.

The race was AWESOME! I will send you some pictures and a link to a video. Amazing can't begin to explain it. He ran the 12 hours and 39 min. I was racing in the car, trying to make the next stop to try and see him to cheer him on. It wasn't an easy feat! (Silly me prepared everything for him at 2:30am, but forgot to pack any food/water for me... so I teetered out mid-day with a horrible Tina dehydration headache, throwing up from all the curves in the road and finally had to stop and sleep in the car for 30 min to get my body back!) The race was so motivating!!!!! We spent all day Sunday recovering, and then traveled back home, picking up kids along the way.

That week I was so excited because I did MY first trail run. A 17km trail run. It took me 3 hours. Really tough, but really satisfying. This was the Thursday before my fall. While Rafa did his race, I made a "deal" with myself to start seriously training for a triathlon. And for a ocean water swim. There's a triathlon in August, perfect. And the ocean water swim is one between the island of Lanzarote and a small island 3.500m swim in October, that I've wanted to do for a few years now. I was psyched!

Saturday morning, I finally got on my road bike.  A Canondale that I had bought before coming to Spain in 1997.  When I arrived in Spain, it just seems so dangerous to ride on the streets here, I don't think I ever used it.  Well, Rafa pimped it up for me and I went for a RIDE!  I loved it.  I did an hour ride and it felt great... Triathlon, here I come!

Saturday afternoon, we went camping with my neighbors in the mountain where the Orienteering race was being held. It's about 1.5 hours away, so that's why we decided to camp for the night. We went in the tents at 10:30pm. It started raining at 10:32 and ended at 6:30am, literally! But it was so much fun! Then at 12 we started the race. I did it by myself, my neighbors were a team, and Rafa watched over the little ones. I was doing OK. I felt a bit sore from the 17km run earlier in the week. And running across the parking lot. pebble. trip. crack. fall. tears.

And here I am, 2 weeks later, broken ankle, now with 2 pins and a wire, 2 weeks with stitches and one month without being able to put weight on my foot. No swimming. No biking. No trails.
